Fine Artist / Educator
Biography
I completed my degree in NCAD Fine Art (paint) and Education. My studio work has grown from an interest in illness and perseverance to a wider consideration of how we, as human beings negotiate the relationship between power and restriction as we encounter it throughout our lives. This focus began in my studio work in second year and has progressed from then through work which explored the themes of resilience, resistance, control and protest. My work from these explorations received recognition through the Temple Bar Medical Centre’s ‘Art for Care Exhibition’ 2019, Inspire Gallery’s “Cahoots Exhibition” 2020 and the “Culture Night Exhibition” at the Temple Bar Medical Centre 2020.
I also have an interest in the presentation of art as something that is portable and transcends time. This interest found its expression through my involvement in the NCAD and National Gallery of Ireland’s collaborative project “Painting the Great Masters’ (2018) and the showing of my work from that at the National Treasury Management Agencies “Visions” exhibition 2020.
As a joint education student my studio practise has greatly informed my teaching practise which is based on research, well organised planning and how to deliver appropriate content in a way which enthuses students, ignites their curiosity and encourages them to realise their creative potential.
My classroom, like my canvas encourages diversity, and facilitates inclusive involvement. I believe that art provides students with a creative channel that allows them to grow emotionally, spiritually, and academically, in a social setting that also allows them to express their individuality at the same time.
