Trying to encourage students in all of my classes this week to bring in primary sources to work from as much as possible! The Art Room looked like a day at the beach with Transition Year students working on drawings of clam / conch shells, coral pieces and plastic bottles and bags! The Support Studies within this class worked really well as it inspired students in terms of the way they might sketch their own sea creatures and ocean inspired imaginative compositions. Using an illustrator as a support studies also included a learning layer for students through discussing what an illustrator is and what an illustrator does, it gave students an insight into a possible career path within art. The cross curricular link to Science through questioning students on what an ecosystem is worked well as it gave students an opportunity to use their knowledge of another subject within their artwork. The process board visual aid showing students each step of the process step by step worked well as it built on what they knew from the previous lessons as well as showed them where the project is going over the next few weeks. The demonstration showing students how to draw step by step worked well as it aided students who had very little experience with drawing to complete the student activity. I am conscious that most students within the class have never done art before and have very little experience. Primary Sources brought in by myself were laid out on tables within the class for students with no primary sources to photograph and draw from as they are not allowed to touch them due to COVID.
